March 9th, 2015 recorded another successful animal rescue that took place at the Hudson Mohawk Shelter in Menands NY. The shelter contacted PETCARE Community volunteers and indicated that they were full and had several dogs that needed to go to foster care. Because we have had several of these rescues already, we agreed to take one dog with us at that time. (Looking to become a foster family? We need all the help we can get! Apply here.) Shelter animals can be very tricky, as they may have behavioral issues that will take time to resolve. Some of the dogs we took in from this shelter in the past have needed a lot of work. But our volunteers are always up to the challenge.
On March 9, 2015, volunteers Linda, from DW Farms, and I (Peter Lonardelli) agreed to meet at the Mohawk Shelter to rescue Penny, a two year old German Shepherd mix. Penny had been living at the shelter since January and did not like it there. Nancy told us that Penny was well behaved; she just needed the proper care and attention that German Shepherds require. Linda and I have both worked with German Shepherds in the past, we knew exactly what to do.
Over the past few months Penny has gotten the care and attention she deserves. She has been a great dog and we look forward to her bright future!
